Comparative Politics

My main research interests are political violence and genocide, transitional justice, identity and ethnicity, and forced migration. More specifically, I am curious as to why so many individuals participate in violence, such as mass killing and looting during genocide, and how institutional design might allow for or restrict this type of participation. I also hope to explore the consequences of violence on group identity and development. Recently, I have become fascinated by the state’s understanding and undertaking (or not) of forgiveness after mass atrocities.
