Edward Smith, a second-year undergraduate student (recently admitted to Politics Honors), and Emily Sydnor, a second-year graduate student, have been awarded a Double Hoo Research Grant.  Advised by Professor Nicholas Winter, Emily and Edward will be researching polarization in contemporary political journalism and its effects on public opinion and political behavior.

The Politics Department will hold a single diploma ceremony for Goverment and Foreign Affairs majors in Memorial Gymnasium immediately following the Lawn ceremony on May 22, 2011.  Details on the Politics Department ceremony are available in the departmental graduation letter. Will Walldorf (PhD 2002) received the 2009 Best Book Award from the the International Studies Association's International Security Studies Section for his Just Politics: Democracy, Humanitarian Norms, and Great Power Foreign Policy (Ithaca, NY and London: Cornell University Press, 2008). This book was based on his UVA dissertation. Walldorf teaches at Wake Forest.
