Jordan Cash is the 2018-2019 Pre-Doctoral Research Specialist in the Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy. His research focuses on American politics, constitutional law, American political thought, and early modern political theory. His doctoral research examines how presidents who were isolated from other institutions used their constitutional authority to achieve their policy goals, providing a clearer view of the institutional logic of the constitutional presidency.

Dr. Larry J. Sabato is the founder and director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics. He is also the University Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia, and has had visiting appointments at Oxford University and Cambridge University in Great Britain. A Rhodes Scholar, he received his doctorate from Oxford, and he is the author or editor of two dozen books on American politics.
Rachel Augustine Potter is an Associate Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on the hidden politics of procedure and process in American political institutions, with a particular focus on the bureaucracy and regulation.
Sidney M. Milkis is the White Burkett Miller Professor in the Department of Politics and Director of the Honors Politics Program. He was awarded the Cavaliers’ Distinguished Teaching Professorship for 2018-2020, the highest teaching award at the University of Virginia, which recognizes an eminent scholar for outstanding undergraduate teaching. In 2016-2017, he was named the John G. Winant Visiting Professor of American Government at Oxford University. He has a B.A. from Muhlenberg College and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Rita Koganzon is Associate Director of the Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy and a Lecturer in the Department of Politics. She is a political theorist specializing in the history of political thought. Her research focuses on the themes of childhood, education, and the family in political thought. She has published articles on the family in Hobbes, Locke’s educational writings, and the educational ideas of the American founders.
Justin Kirkland is an associate professor of politics and policy at the University of Virginia where he specializes in American Politics. His research interests center on representation, legislative politics, state politics, and public opinion. He has published more than 30 peer reviewed articles in journals like American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, and The Journal of Politics.
Jennifer L. Lawless is the Leone Reaves and George W. Spicer Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia and the Chair of the Politics Department. She also has affiliations with UVA’s Miller Center and the Batten School. Jen’s research focuses on political ambition, campaigns and elections, and media and politics. She is the author or co-author of eight books, including News Hole: The Demise of Local Journalism and Political Engagement (with Danny Hayes) and It Still Takes a Candidate: Why Women Don't Run for Office (with Richard L. Fox).
Paul Freedman (Ph.D. University of Michigan) is Director of the Environmental Thought and Practice major at the University of Virginia, and Associate Professor in the Department of Politics. Freedman teaches courses in media and politics, campaigns and elections, research methods, environmental politics, and the politics of food. He is the recipient of the UVA Alumni Board of Trustees Teaching Award and was the first Edward L. Ayers Advising Fellow.
