Politics grad student Jorge Cano Febles presents his latest book at ITAM

Politics grad student Jorge Cano Febles presented his book "Law Enforcement in Mexico City in the Context of Mexico’s Transition to Democracy" at ITAM's Center for Security, Intelligence, and Governance Studies seminar.

The book presents a history of the enforcement of justice in Mexico City from 1994 to 2018, in parallel with the democratic transition, and demonstrates that the practices of the old autocratic political system prevailed in the Public Prosecutor's Office, despite the regime change and the introduction of reliable elections in public life. In other words, this is a book about the Mexican criminal justice system and the institutional factors of impunity, but also about the post-transition state architecture and its achievements, limitations, and authoritarian legacies.

Commentary was provided by Vidal Romero, director of CESIG.
