Biography
David Waldner (Ph.D. Berkeley) studies the formation of the modern state, the political economy of development, the origins of democracy and dictatorship, and qualitative methods. He is the author of State Building and Late Development (Cornell University Press, 1999), Rethinking the Resource Curse (Cambridge University Press, 2021) and Qualitative Causal Inference and Explanation (Cambridge University Press, 2026). His current book project is Reconstruction in Comparative Perspective.
